Bibliography “Literary opus of Nikola I Petrović Njegoš (1841-1921)” by Ljiljana Đorđević, published by the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in the year of marking 100 years since the death of the first and last Montenegrin king, was presented last night at the Library in Cetinje.

Apart from the author, who spoke about bibliographic material, the following people participated in the promotion: prof. dr Sonja Nenezić and prof. dr Marijana Terić.

Ms. Terić referred to the literary work of Nikola I, emphasizing that he achieved the greatest artistic achievement in the historical drama in verse “The Empress of the Balkans”: which gained great popularity, not only in the country but also abroad, while Ms. Nenezić spoke about literary language in works of the Montenegrin king.

Zoran Vujović, an actor of the Montenegrin National Theatre, opened the event with the verses of the poem “Montenegro”, written by Nikola I in 1876, and during the evening he recited the verses of the poems “I sang…” composed in 1880, as well as an introduction from the work “The Empress of the Balkans” entitled “To Montenegrin Women”.

At the end of the program, Mr. Vujović read excerpts from the sermon delivered before the proclamation of the Constitution in Cetinje in 1905 and part of the manifesto during the proclamation of Montenegro as a Kingdom in 1910, which also belong to the literary legacy of Nikola I Petrović Njegoš.

This event was completed by an exhibition consisting of works by Nikola I, translations into foreign languages, postcards and manifestoes from the Library's funds, and it will adorn the hall of the former Italian embassy until the end of this year.

The bibliography contains 3370 bibliographic units and it is divided into four parts: “Literary work of Nikola I”, “Literature on the work of Nikola I”, “Nikola I Petrović in the literary work of other authors” and “Electronic sources on the literary work of Nikola I”.
