For Publishers

National Library prepares CIP (Cataloguing in Publication) upon request from the publishers from Montenegro and assigns the international standard ISBN, ISSN and ISMN numbers for monographs and serials, printed music and other library materials.

CIP

CIP records are prepared in the National Library according to the international standards – ISBD (M) – for monographs, ISBD (CR) – for serials ISBD (PN) – for printed music, ISBD (ER) – for electronic publications, ISBD (NBM) –for non-book materials and ISBD (CM) – for cartographic materials. Such a record, given in summary form, provides information on bibliographic and content character of the publication.
Obligation of the publisher is to print catalogue entry on each new publication prepared in the COBIB Montenegro database. In this way, the data on publication are available on the Internet before the publication date.
In average, NLM creates 1,000 CIP records on annual level.

ISBN

National  ISBN  Centre  of  Montenegro, located  in  the  National Library, assigns annually over 1,000 ISBNs (International Standard Book Number) to printed books and pamphlets in Montenegro, regardless of the media in which they have been published.

ISSN  

National ISSN Centre of Montenegro, also located in the NLM, assigns ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) to magazines and newspapers published in Montenegro.
The National Library annually assigns an average of 60 ISSN numbers.

ISMN

ISMN National Centre of Montenegro assigns ISMN (International Standard Music Number) to musical works published in Montenegro. The term printed music includes scores, sections or parts of the multimedia kit.

LEGAL DEPOSIT

Publishers in Montenegro (Law on Publishing) are required to submit to the National Library free of charge and at their own expense five copies of each publication immediately after printing or publishing it. Legal deposit contains: books, serials (magazines and newspapers), printed music, maps, audio-visual materials, electronic publications on physical carriers, electronic publications distributed on the Internet, Internet content of Montenegro’s domain and other publications.

ISBN

National ISSN Centre of Montenegro, located in the NLM, assigns an annual average of 1,000 ISBNs (International Standard Book Number) to printed books and pamphlets in Montenegro.
ISBN is also assigned to publications published in Braille, maps, books in other media (CD, Internet …), as well as to the mixed-media publications with text.

ISMN National Centre of Montenegro at the National Library assigns ISMN (International Standard Music Number) to musical works published in Montenegro. The term printed music includes scores, sections or parts of the multimedia kit ISMN is not assigned independently to the published sound recordings, videos or recordings on computer media. ISMN Centre of Montenegro became operational in 2016.
