HODŽIĆ ABOUT BAŠIĆ: IF YOU TRANSFORM THE LIFE INTO THE STORY, LIFE CONTINUES AFTER DEATH

Ten years after the death of the famous writer Husein Bašić was celebrated at the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje on Friday, November 3.Academician Zuvdija Hodžić spoke about Bašić’s life and creativity, and he thinks that nobody has ever described the life of the Bosniak-Muslim people better then him.

“Bašić wrote about historical events, which often led to the circumstances in which the Bosniak-Muslim people have been alienated on their own territory, persecuted and expelled, left to the mercy of the mighty and powerful, they were the eternal offenders although not guilty, the repeaters of mistakes with fatal consequences, taught to remember for a long time and forgive quickly”, said Hodžić.

It is interesting, as he states, that Bašić in his books strongly and suggestively influences reader’s emotions and, contrary to the expected, he succeeds in awakening self-awareness in them, makes them think about what they were and about what they won’t be.

“The defeat is turned into victory, outrage into rebellion, hopelessness into faith. Bašić’s heroes will not be abandoned by hope even when Muhajiruns, hungry and poor, overflow Anatolia, passing through the nightmares and reality, when they were getting fewer in number, and the graves larger in number”, said Hodžić.

Speaking of Bašić’s novel “Tuđe gnijezdo” Hodžić quoted the words from the insertion: “Is anything more in vain in this Dunyā, than transforming life in a story. As if I had been crushing the stone all the time and from his dust I made bread and created hope for tomorrow.” However, although it is how it’s written, he believes that Bašić better than anyone knew, that by turning life into a story life continues after death, and that hope of tomorrow makes a man more noble, moral and worth.

“Life in Bašić’s works is made of dreams, imagination and faith, but also from “jazija”, the all – time book that records historical and artistic truth about people and events, about humans and nations”, concluded Hodžić.

After his presentation, it was played a documentary “Nacklace Made of Sun”, prepared by the writer and TV author Bogić Rakočević.

“Husein Bašić is one of the most significant Bosniak – Muslim creators in Montenegro, but also in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. A writer who in his works comprised shocking testimonies of the emigration of his fellow countrymen” Rakočević said.

Within this event, an exhibition of Bašić’s works was prepared, which will be opened for all visitors until Friday, November 10.

Husein Bašić was an artist, writer, chronicler, researcher and collector of Bosniaks’ creative works. He was the founder of the “Almanah” Association and the first editor of the same name magazine for studying, protecting and presenting the cultural and historical heritage of Bosniaks.

For more than four decades of creative work, Husein Bašić has published ten novels, eleven poetry books, three books of stories and novels, as well as several anthologies of oral literature of Bosniaks from Sandžak. He is the author of the five volumes book “Zamjene” which is considered as the capital work of Bosniak and South Slavic literacy. He won the 13 July Award for the novel “Tuđe gnijezdo”.

This event was organized by the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in cooperation with the Cultural Center Bijelo Polje and Ratković’s Poetry Evenings.
