CENTURIES PRESERVED FOR THE FUTURE

The exhibition of tourist guides from the funds of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” entitled “Centuries Preserved for the Future” was opened last night. It was organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Media as part of the European Heritage Days 2022.

This year's theme of this international event is “Sustainable Heritage”, where the emphasis is on preserving the wealth of cultural heritage. Montenegro, although its area is small - 13,812 km2, is characterized by an immeasurable wealth of relief, climate, natural and cultural diversity. Tourist guides are a nice and useful way to point out that richness and to present the cultural and touristic values of our country in a quality way. Our exhibition is divided into several parts, so visitors have the opportunity to look at those tourist guides that refer to the whole of Montenegro, individual ones for cities and national parks, as well as a couple of cities’ monographs. Almost all Montenegrin cities are represented. More than 100 guides are on display.

The oldest tourist guide we have is from 1901 and it is a tourist guide for the city of Cetinje, in French. The author of the guide is Milan Pavlović, and the translation into our language is the work of Ivona Jovanović.

The exhibition was opened by the director of the National Tourist Organization of Montenegro, Mrs. Ana Tripković Marković and prepared by employees of the National Library, Milenija Vračar and Iva Vujović.
