The second COBISS DAY, during
which experts from the Institute of Information Science (IZUM) from Maribor, Vesna
Gašparič and Davor Bračko, presented to Montenegrin librarians a new internet
application for storing digital content “dCOBISS Digital Repository”, was held
yesterday in the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje.
Speaking about NLM, as the holder
of the “Virtual Library of Montenegro” project, which aims to connect libraries
to the unique library-information system on the COBISS platform since 2001,
Dragica Lompar, M.Sc., director of the Library, pointed out that from those
initial steps until today, the situation significantly changed, and that in
2004 there were only 6 libraries in the COBISS.cg system.
“This testifies to the
responsible attitude of our institution towards the information and development
needs of modern Montenegrin society, and on the other hand, to the continuity
of excellent cooperation with the former and current management and staff of
IZUM”, said Lompar. The current figures (as of September 16, 2022) say the
following about the COBISS.CG system: the number of members is 47, there are
612,620 records in the mutual database COBIB.CG, while the number of records in
the local CNBCT database is 308,596. 53 trainings for work in the COBISS system
were held in the period 2007-2021, attended by 538 participants.
“I must point out that COBISS has
become an indispensable tool for all types of research, that our users and
citizens are generally familiar with its advantages and that they simply adopt
search methods, as well as all new information knowledge and skills. And this
is a great advantage compared to traditional cataloguing systems, which mostly
required the professional help of library workers. Therefore, librarians,
together with dedicated information experts, should make the best use of the
opportunity that the modern information environment has provided them”,
concluded Lompar.
Dr. Aleš Bošnjak, director of
IZUM, greeted the attendees, praised the work of libraries in Montenegro, and
then answered the questions of Montenegrin librarians on several occasions. The
event, which the Library organized in cooperation with IZUM from Maribor, was
attended by librarians from most member libraries of the COBISS.CG system.
