The National Library of
Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” marked 15 years since the death of the famous
Montenegrin writer, Ratko Vujošević on Friday, June 21.
Borislav Jovanović,
writer and Vlatko Simunović, journalist and literary critic spoke about life
and work of the well-known Montenegrin writer, and within this literary evening
was also shown an interview with Vujošević, hosted by Bogić Rakočević, writer
and television author.
Each eminent poet has the
poem that makes him recognizable, considers Jovanović. The same is with the
poet Ratko Vujošević.
“I believe there is no a
Montenegrin poet who did not wished to be the author of the poem “Orevuar
Montenegro”. Why? Because in this poem, through ninety-seven
verses, it has been accomplished a unique, complex, alchemical and poetic
perfection and reception of the Montenegrin and human universe.”, Jovanović pointed
out and added that Montenegrin people do not read, but breathe this poem.
“It is self-memorizing and
enters into a Montenegrin creature like the verses from “The Mountain Wreath”,
compiled by the greatest Montenegrin poet Petar II Petrović Njegoš”, explained
Jovanović.
Mr. Simunović agreed and
said that Vujošević’s work never gets old.
“He wrote “Orevuar
Montenegro” in 1965, when he was 24 years old. It is the time in life when the
life does not shorten the steps of a man and nothing goes into the abyss.
And
he already understands that the past lasts for too long and lonely as the
lightning he raises up to the bitterness with one difficult, too difficult
thought. Montenegro!”, said Simunović.
With his cycle “Orevuar
Montenegro”, concluded Simunović, Vujošević “first of all, wanted to get clear
with a myth, and a historically distorted understanding of freedom, life and
death.”
Ratko Vujošević was born
on April 7, 1941 in Orahovo (Kuči) near Podgorica. He finished Gymnasium in
Titograd – today's Podgorica, and studies of political sciences in Belgrade in
1968. He worked as a journalist at the Executive Council of the Socialist
Republic of Montenegro and for the newspaper “Titogradska tribina” and
“Pobjeda”. He edited, for almost two decades, the edition “Savremena
literatura” of the publishing houses “Pobjeda” and “Ljetopis”; he reviewed and
published numerous editions of contemporary writers from Montenegro and other
Yugoslav republics. He was the founder of the Youth Writers' Club of the Youth
Center “Budo Tomović” (1961). He published four books of poetry: “Znak na
putovanju” (1966), “Pastirica” (1972), “Čini” (1991) and “Beskonačna dozivanja”
(2003). Vujošević’s poem “Orevuar Montenegro“ is one of the best achievements
of modern Montenegrin poetry.
His poems were translated
into Russian, German, Turkish, Swedish and French. He was the winner of the
Award for liberation of Podgorica (1972) and other social and literary
recognitions.
