The novel “Ubojtak” by
Božo Bulatović, which was published as part of the edition of the National
Library “Đurđe Crnojević”, entitled “Neprolazni romani”, was presented at Gradska
kuća in Nikšić on Monday, June 17.
Bogić Rakočević, Director
of the National Library “Đurđe Crnojević”, Dragan B. Perović, publicist, and Dušan
Govedarica, poet, spoke about the novel, while moderator of the evening Mihailo
Perošević introduced the audience to details from the life and creative work of
the writer.
“The novel “Ubojtak”
is
an extraordinary book that reveals a great writer who shares the fate of our
other literary giants – Mihailo Lalić, Radovan Zogović, Ćamil Sijarić. Their
work draws back from certain things that are happening in our lives in recent
years, which is why it is our duty and obligation to pay attention to their
importance in our history and culture”, said Rakočević.
According to the
publicist Dragan B. Perović the novel deals with the period of struggle of “Komiti”
and illuminates this part of Montenegrin history.
“The language itself is
remarkable and this is a poetic history. Thanks to the real
characters introduced from history, the reader does not get the feeling that
this is a fake history. Through real events and characters, the
writer inserts and introduces fantasy from the whole of our cultural and
mythological heritage that is powerful”, Perović pointed out.
While the writer tells
the story of a particular event, according to Mr. Govedarica, a careful reader
gets an impression that he is reciting verses.
“He is a guardian of
linguistic treasures and that makes him unsurpassed, since he has revived
triple so many forgotten words. From the prologue to the
epilogue, 70 stories and writings march, in the majority permeated
with the tragic fate of the Montenegrin “komiti” and their concealers –
“jataci”, and the fate of a nation traditionally yearning for freedom”,
explained Govedarica.
Božo Bulatović, a poet,
narrator, romance writer, founder of literary criticism in Montenegro,
dramaturg, theater critic, translator, was born in Mojkovac in 1927. He
graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade in 1952. He died in 2009.
He has received
significant literary awards and social recognitions, among which “Trinaestojulska
nagrada” in 1956 for the novel “Karaula”, a subversive book that introduced a
series of novelties in the then dominant socialist realistic literature.
Promotion was organized
by the National Library “Đurđe Crnojević” and PI Public Library “Njegoš” within
June’s repertoire of the Nikšić Cultural Scene 2019.
