Ninth Regional ISBN Workshop
was held from 12 to 14 June at the National and University Library of Slovenia
in Ljubljana. Stella Griffiths, Executive Director of the International ISBN
Agency, was a chair of the Workshop attended by M.Sc. Sanja Martinović, Head of
the National ISBN Agency and Dragana Mirković, library consultant.
On the first working day,
a report on the work of the International ISBN Agency was submitted, as well as
individual reports of national agencies related to activities in the past two
years. What
was also discussed were issues related to ISBN, that is, the scope of the ISBN,
the collection of metadata from the publisher, and the assignment of ISBNs to
digital publications, including online editions.
Participants spoke about
the fees charged by the ISBN allocation agencies, as well as the improvement of
publishing services. A special accent was placed on the General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), that is, on questions about the protection
of the personal data of the publisher when registering it in the ISBN database.
It was agreed for the
next Regional ISBN Workshop to take place in Tirana.
