Bogić Rakočević, director
of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” stayed in visit to the National
Széchényi Library in Budapest from 23 to 26 of February.
The visit was realized
upon the invitation of Dr. László Tüske, director of the institution, and on
that occasion a Memorandum of Cooperation between two libraries was signed in
order to improve cultural relations and establish new forms of direct cooperation
in the field of librarianship and related domains.
The Memorandum
stipulates, inter alia, that libraries shall conduct an interlibrary loan,
encourage the exchange of library experts, promote cooperation in the fields of
librarianship, bibliography, information, manuscript collections, etc.
Rakočević got acquainted
with the holdings of the National Library of Hungary, and the dialogue led especially
to experiences related to the digitization of library material, which will be
discussed at a gathering planned for next year in Budapest. Cooperation
related to early printing activity was agreed upon, with two libraries
preparing a joint exhibition this year.
Rakočević also visited
the Library of the Hungarian Parliament, where Szilárd Markója, director,
introduced him to its structure, way of work and significance for Hungarian
culture, as well as with the Parliament building which is one of the most
beautiful buildings in Budapest and has a special symbolism in recent Hungarian
history.
The Hungarian
Parliament's library also holds a considerable number of publications related
to Montenegro.
