LOCAL PRESS FESTIVAL AT NLM

Local printed press festival was held at the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje. As a part of this event, the Library prepared the exhibition of covers and organized a round table entitled “Globalization and Digitization - Challenges and Prospects of Local Press”.

The cover story was opened by a well-known Montenegrin chronicler and publicist Dragan Mitov Đurović. Speaking about the rich tradition of local press, Mr. Đurović said that the newspapers exist to warn and remind us that there were also some people and events that left and that are leaving an indelible mark behind. However, as he explained, we shall be aware that not everything we read in newspapers is true and that we need to read between the lines.

The round table was officially opened by Mr. Željko Rutović, Director General of the Directorate for Media. He emphasized the importance of these and similar events and he considers that it is important to talk about the challenges and perspectives of local press because we live in the post-media era and post-media culture.

“21st century and the last decade of the 20th century brought turbulent changes in the articulation of a local media, and that is why the perspective of local media must be seen in the commercial character context”, said Rutović.

The round table was attended by representatives of local printed media from almost all Montenegrin cities. They agree that they have a problem to stay on the market and be competitive, as there is an increasing number of internet portals, but also that it is very important to adopt the Media Law.

The covers exhibition is open to all visitors until March 21st.
