The National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” was visited by Mr. Osman Lavić, director of the Gazi Husrev-bey Library in Sarajevo, and Dr. Aladin Husić, a researcher at the Oriental Institute in Sarajevo.
Gazi Husrev-bey Library is one of the oldest libraries in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It has recently marked 480 years of existence and work and it represents the most important institution of Ottoman culture in the Balkans.
Guests from Sarajevo informed Bogić Rakočević, director of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” about the structure, work and plans of their library. In their visit to the Library, they had the chance to see the oriental manuscripts that are in its possession and that mostly date back to the 18th century.
It was agreed that in the coming period, Orientalist specialists from Sarajevo will look at these manuscripts in more detail, which will help in their categorization and qualification in the National Library’s Fund.
