The building of the former French Embassy housing Montenegrin national book and periodicals holdings is finally to receive a new roof. The most valuable library collections of the Central National Library “Đurđe Crnojević”, such as the collection of old and rare books and the legacy of famous personalities from the cultural history of Montenegro are housed in this building.
The Ministry of Culture and Media appropriated 68,000 euro for full reconstruction of the roof, thus protecting the building from further deterioration and the holdings from moisture and possible floods (the books and other valuable materials have already once suffered a disastrous flood several years ago due to the roof damage).The Director of the CNB “Đurđe Crnojević”, Jelena Đurović expects that next year funds will be provided for the reconstruction of the whole building and for its interior decoration aimed to provide for proper presentation of our written cultural heritage, its proper valorization and availability to the widest range of users.
