On the occasion of the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Conference of European National Libraries (CENL) in Zagreb on 25th September 2008, the CNL “Djurdje Crnojevic” became its fully-fledged member. CENL was established with the aim of increasing and reinforcing the role of national libraries in Europe. By its CENL membership, the CNL acquired the opportunity of making available its own electronic catalogue and common catalogue of Montenegrin libraries at The European Library web portal.The European Library aspires in foreseeable future to become a unified database of electronic sources of all national libraries throughout Europe. The TEL web portal is maintained by the TEL office based in the Dutch Royal Library in the Netherlands.The basic aims of The European Library are to: build a joint electronic catalogue of European national libraries searchable in all languages of its full members, develop an internet portal with most important information on European national libraries, and develop the European Digital Library as a repository of European cultural heritage.The European Library is a web service offering access to combined sources – books, magazines, newspapers, multimedia sources, in both the digital and the traditional form, held by the national libraries of Europe.The shared electronic catalogue of European national libraries will encompass at a single point of entry all currently available individual catalogues of national libraries. The European Library’s vision is to foster understanding among the nations of Europe, as well as to offer to the world the richness and diversity of European knowledge, cultural and scientific heritage.
