Within the “Grants for Basic Needs in the Area of Culture” programme, the Japanese Government provided 66,690.00 euro to the Central National Library “Đurđe Crnojević”, Cetinje for the procurement of microfilming and digitalisation equipment for old Montenegrin periodicals, old and rare books and other valuable documents from the Library holdings.
The Grant Agreement was officially signed by H.E. Tadashi Nagai, the Japanese Ambassador to Montenegro and Mrs Jelena Đurović, CNL “Đurđe Crnojević“ director, on 11th December 2007. By signing the Agreement, the Japanese Government gave considerable support to the digitalisation of the Library holdings and collections aiming to preserve and present the written cultural heritage of Montenegro.
The most up-to-date imported equipment, consisting of a microfilm camera SMA 1, microfilm processor STAUDE, microfilm scanner Cannon MS 800, the required PCs, a specialised software and additional components for the work of the Microfilming and Digitalisation Centre.
The official equipment handing ceremony will be attended by H.E. Tadashi Nagai, the Japanese Ambassador to Montenegro, Prof. Branislav Mićunović, Montenegrin Minister of Culture, Sport and Media, Jelena Đurović, director of the CNL “Đurđe Crnojević“ and Dr Milovan Janković, Mayor of the Historic Capital Cetinje.
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 24th September 2008 at 14h within the premises of the CNL “Đurđe Crnojević“ at Cetinje.
