To mark the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the moment when the American astronauts made the first steps on the Moon, the exhibition named “This is a small step for a man, but a giant leap for the mankind”, organised by the CNL and the Foundation “East River – Montenegro”, was opened in the atrium of the Central National Library “Djurdje Crnojevic” at Cetinje on 24th July 2008.
Our wish was to celebrate this milestone event at the National Library in order to symbolically link knowledge, as an essential resource of a society, with libraries as repositories of human memory, said Jelena Djurovic, CNL director.The President of the “East River – Montenegro” foundation, Zoran Zekovic reminded that in that July distant in time the name of then Yugoslavia remained written on the Moon, since the “silicone disc no 72 bears the message signed by Josip Broz Tito on behalf of all Yugoslavs”.– The authentic photographs and originals from the time of “Apollo 11”, presented to us here tonight, are intended to remind us all of the milestone event for the development of science and technology worldwide, said Vice Admiral Dragan Samardzic, Chief of General Staff of the Army of Montenegro opening the exhibition.
