“TRACES OF CREATION” EXHIBITION MARKS 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSOCIATION OF FINE ARTISTS OF MONTENEGRO

The exhibition Traces of Creation, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro (ULUCG), was officially opened on the evening of 22 October at the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje.

Curated by Irena Đurković and Veselin Pejović, the exhibition draws on materials from the Library’s Art and Graphic Collection and other holdings, offering visitors an insight into the rich history and development of fine art in Montenegro.

Through exhibition catalogues, monographs, specialist publications and newspaper articles, the exhibition documents eight decades of the Association’s work, showcasing its exhibition activities, diverse artistic movements and generations of artists who have shaped Montenegro’s visual arts scene from the Association’s founding in 1946 to the present day, 2026. Arranged chronologically, the exhibition reflects the continuity of artistic creation, as well as the changes that have shaped artistic expression and Montenegro’s cultural life.

The opening ceremony featured speeches by Svetlana Dragojević, President of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro, who officially opened the exhibition; Irena Đurković, MA in Library and Information Science at the National Library and curator of the exhibition; and Ljiljana Zeković, art historian.

By organising this exhibition, the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” once again highlights the importance of its collections in preserving, researching and presenting cultural heritage, demonstrating how valuable documentary materials can serve as a record of the development of Montenegrin art and artistic expression.

Traces of Creation contributes to the celebration of this important anniversary of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro and serves as a reminder of the vital role played by institutions that preserve, research and present cultural heritage.
