The regular Assembly of the Montenegrin Librarians Association
(MLA) was held on 3 June 2026 at the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”
in Cetinje. The event brought together librarians from across the country, as
well as representatives of cultural institutions and the media.
The Assembly was opened by the President of the MLA, Jasmina
Bajo, who welcomed the delegates and guests and expressed gratitude to the
Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro for supporting the project
Libraries in the Post-Digital Age, under which the event was organised.
Appreciation was also extended to the host institution, the National Library of
Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”, for its longstanding cooperation and support of
the Association’s work.
The participants were addressed by Ivan Radulović, Director of the National
Library, and Sharon Memis, Secretary General of the International Federation of
Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), both of whom highlighted the
importance of libraries and professional cooperation among librarians in a time
of rapid social and technological change. The programme was moderated by Suzana
Marjanović.
A special segment of the programme was dedicated to the presentation of the Dr
Niko Simov Martinović Award, the most prestigious recognition in Montenegrin
librarianship. For the period 2021–2023, the award was presented to Slavica
Glendža and the Vojislav Minić Accessible Formats Library in Podgorica, while
Vera Đukanović was named laureate for the period 2023–2025.
The award citations were presented by Snežana Vojvoda, Chair of the Awards
Committee, who emphasised the recipients’ contributions to the development of
library services and to improving access to knowledge and information. On
behalf of the award recipients, Slavica Glendža addressed the audience,
thanking the Association for the recognition and stressing the importance of
the continuous development of the library profession in Montenegro.
The Assembly delegates elected the new leadership of the Montenegrin Librarians
Association for the 2026–2028 term. Dragana Marković was elected President of
the Association, while Nataša Špadijer will serve as Secretary.
The newly elected Executive Board consists of: Dragana Marković, Nataša
Špadijer, Vjenceslava Ševaljević, Ognjen Savić, Edin Smailović, Vesna Kovač,
Marica Lučić, Ardita Rama and Jasmina Bajo.
The members of the Supervisory Board are Bojana Joksimović, Sofija Jelovac and
Đurđa Martinović, while the Court of Honour for the forthcoming term will
comprise Ljiljana Ćuković, Alija Redžematović and Ivana Klać.
In her address, the newly elected President, Dragana Marković, thanked the
delegates for their trust and stated that the Association’s priorities would
include improving the professional status of librarians, strengthening
inter-library cooperation, and enhancing the position of libraries as important
centres of knowledge, culture and lifelong learning.
The Assembly concluded in an atmosphere of professional solidarity and with the
shared conviction that libraries and librarians remain among the key pillars of
Montenegro’s cultural and educational development.
