In accordance with the Law on Library Activities, and with the aim of ensuring permanent, systematically organised and continuous work on the development and improvement of library services, the National Library of Montenegro "Đurđe Crnojević", among its many other activities, also carries out supervisory functions. One form of these supervisory activities is the regular annual inspection of public libraries, as well as the University Library.
On 28 April, a delegation from the National Library – Director Ivan Radulović, Acting Assistant Director for Development - Vjenceslava Ševljević, Head of the Department for Library Information Systems and Digitisation - Đurđa Martinović, and representative of the Supervisory Service Ivana Klać – visited the Public Library "Mirko Srzentić" in Ulcinj and the Public Library and Reading Room "Ivo Vučković" in Bar. In Ulcinj, they were welcomed by the Head of the Library Ardita Rama, Assistant Director of the Cultural Centre, Besart Nika, and Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture and Social Affairs of the Municipality of Ulcinj Merita Šabanović Subašić. The current situation in which the library operates was presented, together with the achievements and results attained by the staff despite the inadequate conditions in which they have worked for many years. During the visit and discussions held on the premises of the Cultural Centre Bar, representatives of the National Library met with the Head of the Public Library and Reading Room "Ivo Vučković", Sonja Lalević, Director of the Cultural Centre Aleksandra Grabež, and Secretary of the Secretariat for Culture in the Municipality of Bar, Srđan Lekić. Particular emphasis was placed on the outstanding results achieved by the Bar library, with a focus on the further improvement of services, especially in the area of digitisation of the most valuable titles from the library collections. Based on all the information collected, the representative of the Supervisory Service, Ivana Klać, will prepare official reports on the current situation and forward them to the libraries for review.
