They say that hanging out with a children's writer is like a chest full of charms that invites you to imagine together. This is how it was today in the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje. The pages of the books rustled, and every sentence carried a bit of magic.
The European project ReadForReal brought as a guests Stefan Mitić, an author who writes the way children imagine; freely, bravely and cheerfully, without strict rules that spoil the joy of the game.
My task, as one who writes for children, is to be crazier than you, children. By nature, you are crazy in your imagination - Mitić said.
His words awakened smiles, curiosity, sometimes quiet mystery, giving the children a moment to listen to their thoughts.
It cannot be said that everything is just one inspiration, but there are more events from more things that are bothering you and what you are thinking about. It all brings down to something that reaches the book - said Mitić.
He spoke to the children from elementary schools “Njegoš” and “Lovćenski partizanski odred” about his books, but also about ideas that surprise a person in the middle of an ordinary day, about heroes who sometimes, just like that, appear by themselves.
So we go through life collecting first something that is interesting to us and then everything. I think that this warehouse of the unconscious and covered is something that is the most inspiring to me. Every action we take in life is actually very connected to something we did before - Mitic explained.
The conversation with the author, whose stories are turned into films, murals, theatre plays, and even tattoos, was led by writer Aleksandra Lekić Vujisić.
As a memento, the children received bookmarkers, postcards with blank space for their own drawings and messages.
The meeting with the writer was organized on the occasion of the European Authors Day, which has existed since 2023 at the initiative of the European Commission.
In the national library, it smelled like the beginning of new small adventures, which, just like books, will be remembered forever.
