The delegation of the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” - director Dragica Lompar, assistant director for development, Dragan Mirković, head of the Department for Library Information System and Digitization, Vjenceslava Ševaljević, and librarian for information system and professional assistance to libraries in the COBISS.CG system, Đurđa Martinović, visited the Public Library in Žabljak on September 25, 2025.
In the premises of the Library, the delegation from Cetinje was welcomed by Jovana Pavlović, director of the Center for Culture, Aleksandra Mladenović, librarian and Ante Mišo Bojat, librarian.
During a visit to this library two years ago, the condition found was not commendable. However, now the situation has improved a lot, the importance of this institution has been recognized by the local self-government, and the Library has employed a librarian, equipment has been acquired, the librarian has already undergone the first training for working in the COBISS system, and thus the conditions for inclusion in the library and information system COBISS.CG have been met. Directors Dragica Lompar and Jovana Pavlović signed the Agreement on full membership of the Žabljak library in the library and information system COBISS.CG and soon, after the installation of the local database, this library will become the 53rd member of the system. Colleague Đurđa Martinović, together with professional library staff, created the Fund Record, which is one of the prerequisites for the installation of a local database.
In this case, it has been shown that visits to Montenegrin libraries really make sense and that they can encourage both authorities and employees to make positive changes. After the situation of two years ago, when the continued existence of the Žabljak library was questionable, the situation is now much better.
After Žabljak, the delegation of the National Library visited the Public Library in Šavnik, which is part of the Cultural Center in that city. They were welcomed by Nataša Ćirović, an employee of the Library, a representative of the Center for Culture, as well as Slavica Mijatović, an employee of the Municipality of Šavnik and the president of the Council of the Šavnik Cultural Center.
