The two-volume study “Christianity in Montenegrin spiritual and
cultural-historical identity” by Ilija Velev, published by Matica
Crnogorska at the end of last year will be promoted on Tuesday, June 17
at 6 pm at the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in
Cetinje. Speakers will be historian Božidar Šekularac, political
scientist Radovan Radonjić, president of Matica Montenegrin Ivan Jovović
and general secretary of Matica Montenegrin Ivan Ivanović, who
translated the study into Montenegrin.
This capital edition of Matica Crnogorska includes interdisciplinary
research on the autochthonous genesis and ethnographic emancipation of
the Montenegrin spiritual and cultural-historical identity. Researches
in historical continuity follow the development of Christianity through
all civilizational upgrades and global processes through epochs,
starting with the ancient Illyrian - Dioclean subjectivity, and ending
with the Montenegrin national collectivity at the beginning of the 20th
century. The edition sheds light on little-known and unknown processes
and periods, and highlights several research answers to hitherto
unsolved questions in Montenegrin studies. The first volume has the
subtitle “From the emergence of the Christian religion, civilization and
culture to the decline of the Vojislavljević dynasty in 1189” (it
contains six chapters), and the second “At the crossroads of the
Christian West and East from the beginning of the 13th century to the
twilight of the state of Montenegro in 1920” in addition to five
chapters, contains a list of references and a bio-bibliography of the
author.
