Tonight, the promotion of the book „Njegoš u likovnosti (meditativnost i vizuelnost: mijene i prožimanja)” by prof. dr Sonja Tomović Šundić was held in the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević”, within the “Njegoš’s Day, Montenegrin Cultural Holiday” manifestation. Prof. dr Aleksandar Čilikov, Ljiljana Zeković and the author spoke about this work.
Academician Čilikov pointed out that the creation of such a work requires a special sensibility and knowledge of fine art, Njegoš's work and hid thoughtful being, and that this work includes the largest number of artists who have dealt with our famous poet, depicting him in portraits, paintings, sculptures, etc. Sonja Tomović Šundić has this knowledge and, as he said, she had someone to look up to, alluding, of course, to the fact that Sonja's father was a respected philologist who studied Njegoš and his works.
Art historian Ljiljana Zeković reflected on this work from her profession’s point of view and congratulated the author on the successful realization of such an idea. She quoted a part from the book that says: “Petar II Petrović Njegoš is an incentive for various interpretations about his intellectual properties and psycho-physical characteristics. For more than two centuries, artists strive to leave an artistic testimony, expressing respect for the timeless value of his work and his magical individuality.”
The author said that this work was a long time in the making. We don't have any photos and the artists’ representations are what we can thank to for keeping our today's image of Njegoš alive. The great thinker himself was amazed by beauty as the only quality visible to the eye and truly enjoyed it. Both through art and through human beauty, which he admired.
