THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CATALOGUING WITH NORMATIVE CONTROL IN THE COBISS.CG SYSTEM

On this day last year, the entire COBISS.CG library and information system switched to cataloguing with normative control of personal names. Normative database CONOR, which is intended for normative control of authors' names and which is based on the connection between bibliographic and normative records, contains names of authors who can be individuals or corporations.

The process of implementing the normative control of personal names in the COBISS.CG system started in 2019. At the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, all active cataloguers (117) successfully completed the “Transition to Cataloguing with Normative Control” course.

Before the start of the implementation, the cataloguers practiced creating short normative records in the test database, in order to be ready for the start of the application of cataloguing with normative control.

Our cataloguers have worked hard in the past year and today there are a total of 40,768 records for personal names in the common normative database CONOR.CG.

A total of 19 editors take care of the quality and uniformity of the database, 7 from the National Library and 12 from other member libraries of the COBISS.CG system.
