80 YEARS SINCE THE THIRTEENTH JULY UPRISING IN 1941

“The July 13 Uprising is an unrepeatable historical rise of the Montenegrins” (Veljko Milatović, “Pobjeda”, July 13, 2002).

After the decision of the Provincial Organization of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in Montenegro, which was made in Stijena Piperska, a nationwide uprising broke out in Montenegro as an act of resistance and rebellion against fascism. It was the first mass uprising that encouraged other Yugoslav and European peoples to fight with the spirit of freedom. The famous French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre described it as a magnificent event in the European history of the 20th century and said that he directed humanity on the path it should take.

This unique event in occupied Europe belongs to all the peoples of Montenegro. All historical and ethical values of civilization are woven into it: freedom, dignity, heroism and disobedience, as well as the achievements of the glorious Montenegrin wars and struggles for liberation.

The history of the people’s liberation struggle and the history of Montenegro preserve the memory of the great deeds and feats of brave members of the partisan movement as a pledge to future generations.

In honor of the 80th anniversary of the 13 July Uprising, the National Library “Đurđe Crnojević” prepared a video projection to remind us of the names of 244 national heroes from Montenegro who “loved freedom more than life”.

It  can be viewed on the portal www.nb-cg.me , as well as on the official social media pages of the Library:
