Within its international
activities and presentations of regional authors in the fields of science and
literature, the National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” organized the
lecture of prof. Dr Darko Darovec, a historian from Slovenia, on the topic “Peace
and Values in Blood Feud”.
Speaking of blood feud, Mr.
Darovec explained to Cetinje’s audience that he has analyzed this phenomenon
within European nations.
“We come to the conclusion
that all European populations, more or less, resorted to this type of justice
when that “real” justice fails”, Darovec said.
However, he emphasized
that blood feuds still exist in some societies.
“In some nations, as a
determinant of anthropology and tradition, the tradition of blood feud has been
maintained to this day. They believe that if one family “owes
blood” to another, the only way to repay the debt is by killing a man from
another family”, he said.
Prof. Dr. Darko Darovec
was born in Koper, where he still lives, in 1951. He graduated history and
sociology of culture from Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. He is a
professor at several European universities (Maribor, Ljubljana, Venice) and the
author of 16 scientific monographs and over 40 studies. Currently,
he is vice - rector for Scientific Research the New University, where he was a
Dean of the Faculty of Slovenian and International Studies. He
is Editor in Chief of scientific journals “Annales” and “Acta Histriae”.
He
has received multiple European awards.
