The second international “MONTENEGRO
- Libraries, Archives and Museums, LAM 2019” Conference was held at the
National Library of Montenegro “Đurđe Crnojević” in Cetinje on May 16 and 17.
Aleksandar Kašćelan,
Mayor of the Capital of Cetinje, Aleksandar Dajković, Director General of the
Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Bogić Rakočević, Director of the Library
spoke at the opening.
The conference was
attended by 100 participants from Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Croatia, Macedonia and Germany. Forty expert papers were
presented by 57 participants: 45 librarians, four archivists and eight
museologists.
Eminent experts held four
lectures: Dr. Adam Sofronijević from the University Library “Svetozar Marković”
in Belgrade, Dr. Hartmut Janczikowski from Hamburg, dr. sc. Sofia Klarin
Zadravec from the National and University Library in Zagreb, and M. Sci Azra
Bečević - Šarenkapa from the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in
Sarajevo.
The themes of creative works
were diverse and dedicated to services in all cultural institutions, regardless
of type, ranging from traditional to completely modern heritage establishments.
The presentations of the
participants show the theoretical and practical principles of innovative
services, as well as examples of good practice. The need for
continuous improvement of cultural workers, as well as need for following the international
guidelines and standards in providing library, archival and museum services, is
emphasized, but also the obligation of today's cultural institutions to
position themselves as cultural, educational and social centers of the
community, which will successfully cooperate with all other institutions in the
environment, all with the aim of providing quality services, but also
preserving their image.
The most discussed topic
was digitization and participants of the Conference agreed that it is necessary
to work on the forming a national strategy for the digitization of cultural
heritage.
Priorities in further
work and cooperation, through examples of good practices in Montenegro and the
region, are the use of joint, already proven ideas and projects, through which
we can do a lot for cultural heritage.
The project coordinator
is Dragana Marković, library consultant, and it was financially supported by
the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro within the Program for the Protection and
Preservation of Cultural Heritage for 2019.
